the bayou
To set the stage for their upcoming East River development, Midway partnered with Muros to activate 6 massive shipping containers with an authentic and community focused mural. Inspired by the surrounding Historic Fifth Ward and East End neighborhoods, local Houston artist David Maldonado created the mural to represent the power of the bayou and its ability to connect the city’s diverse communities. Mosaic tiles, beehives promoting sustainability and wellness, and an his signature astronaut nodding to Houston’s strong ties with NASA are all woven uniquely into the piece.

about the artist
David Maldonado is a Houston-based multidisciplinary artist and recording singer-songwriter. Drawing inspiration from folk art, street culture, and the Mexican muralist movement, David has developed a well-recognized style that has led him to work with companies and brands such as Adidas, The Houston Astros, The Houston Texans, The Houston Maritime Museum, Jack Daniels, The National Institute of Aerospace and NASA.
